This standard is developed in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces GB/T 22731-2008 Fragrance compound. The main changes of this standard with respect to GB/T 22731- 2008 are as follows:

——the requirements that the product package shall be noted with “License Number” (see Sub-clause 7.1 in Edition 2008) are deleted;

——eleven categories of products in which fragrance compound shall be used (see Table A.1 and Table A.1 in Edition 2008) are modified;

——the fragrances used in fragrance compound and their maximum limits in eleven categories of fragranced products are modified (see Table B.1, and Table B.1 in Edition 2008);

——the forbidden matters in fragrance compound are modified (see Table C.1, and Table C.1 in Edition 2008).

This standard was proposed by the China National Light Industry Council.

This standard is under jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Fragrance and Flavor Cosmetic of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 257).

This standard was firstly issued in December, 2008 and is revised for the first time.


Fragrance compound

1 Scope

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, requirements, test methods, inspection rules and marking, packaging, transportation, storage and shelf life of fragrance compound.

This standard is applicable to the analysis and evaluation of the quality of various types of liquid fragrance compound.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

fragrance compound
a mixture of daily fragrance and accessory materials prepared according to a certain formula

reference sample
the specific matters determined for the inspection after the technical department and the relevant departments/personnel conduct verification and aroma evaluation on the samples

the sample for inspection taken out of the taken samples

4 Requirements

4.1 Color: meet the color requirements of the same model of reference sample.

4.2 Aroma: meet the characteristic aroma requirements of the same model of reference sample.

4.3 Relative density (25℃/25℃ or 20℃/20℃ or 20℃/4℃): DReference sample ± 0.010.

4.4 Refractive index (20℃): nReference sample ± 0.010.

4.5 Heavy metal (counted by Pb) content: ≤10mg/kg (except for the eleventh category of products in Annex A).

4.6 Arsenic (counted by As) content: ≤5mg/kg (except for the eleventh category of products in Annex A).

4.7 The eleven categories of products with fragrance compound meet the requirements of Annex A; the fragrance used in fragrance compound and their maximum limit in the eleven categories of fragranced products meet the requirements of Annex B; the forbidden matters in fragrance compound meet the requirements of Annex C.

5 Test methods

5.1 Verification of color

The test sample and the reference sample are respectively placed in the same size of the colorimetric tube to the same scale, and observed in the horizontal direction under a white background, and the color of the reference sample and the test sample are compared.

5.2 Evaluation of aroma

It meets the requirements of GB/T 14454.2.

5.3 Determination of relative density

It meets the requirements of GB/T 11540.

5.4 Determination of refractive index

It meets the requirements of GB/T 14454.4.

5.5 Determination of heavy metals (counted by Pb)

It meets the requirements of GB 5009.74.

5.6 Determination of arsenic (counted by As)

It meets the requirements of GB 5009.76.

6 Inspection rules

6.1 Fragrance compound shall be inspected by the quality inspection department of producer. The producer shall ensure that the ex-factory products meet the requirements of this standard. Each batch of ex-factory products shall be accompanied by a quality certificate. In addition, the producer shall inform the customer in writing of the highest amount of the fragrance in eleven categories of fragranced products or specified products. The color, aroma, relative density and refractive index are the ex-factory inspection items, and the type inspection is the overall inspection, which is carried out once a year.

6.2 The acceptance unit has the right to inspect whether the quality of the products received meets the requirements of this standard. Each batch is subjected to one acceptance and the different batches are separately accepted.

6.3 Sampling method: 1 to 2 packaging units per batch: sample it or both; 3 to 100 packaging units per batch: sample 2 units; the portion over 100 units: re-sample 3%. Use a sampler to uniformly extract 50 mL to 100 mL of the test sample from each packaging unit, and place all the extracted test samples in the sample mixer and mix them thoroughly into two clean, dry, sealed inert containers. Keep them away from light. Label the container with the name of the manufacturer, the name of the product, the date of manufacture, the batch number, the quantity and the date of sampling. One bottle is for inspection and the other bottle is reserved for future reference.

6.4 If one of the acceptance results does not meet the requirements of this standard, it may be re-tested with double test samples together jointly with the producer. If still one item fails to pass the retest, this batch of products shall be judged as rejected.

6.5 When the supplier and the buyer disagree with the quality of the product, the dispute may be settled by agreement between the parties or arbitrated by a statutory inspection agency.
