Introduction

1. Standard Overview

GB/T 32788.4-2016 "Prepreg Performance Test Methods Part 4: Determination of Tensile Strength" is a Chinese national standard, which is specifically used to determine the tensile strength of unidirectional prepregs with carbon fiber, glass fiber and other reinforcement materials. The standard was officially implemented on May 1, 2017.

2. Background and significance of standard formulation

With the increasing application of composite materials in aerospace, automobile manufacturing and construction, the requirements for prepreg performance are also getting higher and higher. Tensile strength is one of the key indicators for evaluating the mechanical properties of prepregs. The formulation of this standard provides a scientific basis for unifying the determination method of prepreg tensile strength in the industry.

3. Comparison of standard frameworks

Dimensions Requirements of this standard Comparison with relevant international standards
Test principle Tensile loading to failure, record the failure load to calculate the strength. Consistent with ISO standards, using the same basic principles.
Instruments Testing machine, analytical balance, air drying oven, etc. International standards have similar requirements, but some details are different.
Specimen preparation Same size, no less than 5 pieces. There are differences with the ASTM standard, but both meet the basic requirements of material performance testing.

4. Implementation Recommendations

4.1 Test Condition Control

In actual operation, it is recommended to strictly control the temperature and humidity of the test environment. According to the standard requirements, if the prepreg does not require state adjustment, it can be tested directly; otherwise, it needs to be adjusted in the test environment for at least 2 hours.

4.2 Data Processing and Analysis

Calculate the cross-sectional area of the fiber bundle according to Appendix A, and calculate the tensile strength in combination with the breaking load. It is recommended to use professional software for data statistics and analysis to ensure the accuracy of the results.

4.3 Inter-laboratory Collaboration

Since the current standard does not include a precision report, it is recommended that laboratories strengthen cooperation and jointly accumulate test data to provide support for future revisions.
