Introduction
Professional interpretation of the technical guidelines for operating condition conversion of pumped storage units
1. Background and significance of the standard
This standard specifies the criteria, methods, conditions and processes for the operating conditions and operating condition conversion of pumped storage units, and is applicable to reversible pumped storage units with a single unit capacity of 150MW and above. The standard is proposed and managed by the China Electricity Council, and provides an important technical basis for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of pumped storage units.
2. Definition and classification of operating conditions
According to GB/T32894-2016, the operating conditions of pumped storage units include:
- Generation condition (G)
- Pumping condition (P)
- Generation phase adjustment condition (GC)
- Pumping phase adjustment condition (PC)
- Spinning reserve (SR)
- Transfer shutdown (TS)
| Operating condition type | Definition | Main criteria | Applicable scenarios |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generation condition (G) | Release water from the upper reservoir to drive the unit to operate and generate electricity. | - The active power of the unit is within the normal range - The outlet circuit breaker is closed - The phase-changing disconnector is in the generation direction | Grid peak regulation or emergency response |
| Pumping condition (P) | Pump water from the lower reservoir to convert electrical energy into water potential energy. | - The active power absorbed by the unit is within the normal range - The phase-changing disconnector is in the pumping direction | Energy storage demand of the power system |
3. Conditions and process of operating condition conversion
The operating condition conversion must meet the following basic conditions:
- The corresponding upstream side gates of the unit are fully open
- The water levels of the upper and lower reservoirs are within the normal operating range
- The unit's export bus switchgear is in "remote" control mode
- No fault alarm
Typical conversion process:
- Shutdown condition (ST) → Transfer shutdown (TS)
- Transfer shutdown (TS) → Spinning Standby (SR)
- Spinning Standby (SR) → Generation Condition (G)
4. Special requirements for operating condition conversion
Pay special attention to the following matters during the operating condition conversion:
- The priority of the accident shutdown process is higher than the normal shutdown process
- When it comes to the operation of circuit breakers and disconnectors, the "five prevention" requirements must be met
- Logical locking conditions to prevent accidental mechanical braking
5. Implementation Suggestions
To ensure the safety and reliability of operating condition conversion, it is recommended to:
- Regularly inspect and maintain the unit auxiliary equipment
- Optimize the operating condition conversion logic and improve the level of automation
- Strengthen the training of operating personnel and familiarize them with the switching procedures of various working conditions
