1. Overview of the Standard
The National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T 33618-2017 "Testing the Smoke and Heat Release Performance of Textile Combustion" specifies the test method for the smoke and heat released by textiles during combustion. This standard is applicable to various fabrics and their products and is intended to evaluate their safety under extreme conditions such as fire.
2. Background of Standard Formulation
With the development of the textile industry, the flame retardant properties of textiles and the harmful substances released during combustion have become important concerns for public safety. This standard was proposed by the China National Textile and Apparel Council and was managed by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Textiles SAC/TC 209, ensuring its scientificity and practicality.

3. Test Equipment and Operation Procedure
The test equipment includes test environment chamber, weighing device, ignition device, thermal radiation cone, etc. The operation is strictly carried out in accordance with the standard requirements to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the data.
- Purpose: Measure thermal irradiance, control it within the range of 0~100 kW/m², and the error does not exceed ±3%.
- Key parameters: The uniformity of thermal irradiance, the deviation in the 50mm×50mm area at the center of the sample is ≤±2%.
4. Result calculation and expression
The mass loss rate (MLR), heat release rate (HRR) and smoke release rate (SRR) are calculated by formula, and the data are rounded off as required. The test results are reported as the average of three samples to ensure the reliability and representativeness of the data.
5. Implementation Suggestions
In actual applications, it is recommended that users strictly follow the standards, calibrate the equipment regularly, and record all abnormal phenomena. If the test results differ by more than 10%, the number of samples should be increased or the test conditions should be re-evaluated.
