Evolution of Technical Standards for Electrodeionization Membrane Stacks

As an upgraded standard of HY/T120-2008, GB/T 38514-2020 systematically standardizes the test system of electrodeionization membrane stacks for the first time, forming a technical connection with the terminology definition of GB/T20103-2006. The background of standard formulation stems from the urgent need of the electronic-grade water preparation industry for quantitative evaluation of membrane stack performance.

Key test equipment requirements

The standard stipulates that the test equipment must be equipped with a 1.0-level precision flow meter and a 2.0-level resistivity meter, and the pipeline materials must comply with the GB/T17219 sanitation standard. Typical configurations such as precision filters (1μm) can effectively protect the membrane stack from particulate contamination.


Key points of operating specifications

  1. Start-up sequence: open the outlet valve first → start the booster pump → slowly adjust the inlet valve
  2. Stability determination: the resistivity of the produced water must be stable for more than 1 hour before recording data
  3. Safety specifications: The ground impedance test must comply with the requirements of Chapter 18 of GB9706.1-2007

Implementation suggestions

It is recommended that enterprises establish a three-level quality control system:

  • Raw material stage: verify the conductivity of the ion exchange membrane (refer to Appendix A indicators)
  • Production process: use this standard for modular testing
  • Finished product inspection: add 72 hours of continuous operation test
