Introduction

Interpretation of the core content of the standard

This standard specifies two determination methods for water solubilization power and water emulsification power, which are used to evaluate the water dispersibility of surfactants in dry cleaning solvents such as tetrachloroethylene. The test concentration range is 3-5g/L, and the critical value is determined by transmittance measurement and phase separation observation respectively.

Implementation points

Typical application scenarios

A dry-cleaning agent manufacturer used this method to measure the water solubilization power of its new product tetrachloroethylene-based detergent to be 12.5g/L and its water emulsification power to be 18.3g/L. By comparing with the industry benchmark values, it was confirmed that its dispersion performance was better than that of similar products.

Key operating specifications

  • Temperature control: Maintain a constant temperature of 23±2℃ throughout the process
  • Stirring speed: The rotation of the magnet does not generate turbulence
  • Sequence of reagent addition: Strictly follow the steps in 7.2.1 of the standard
  • Safety protection: Tetrachloroethylene must be operated in a fume hood

Background of standard evolution

This standard is modified to adopt ISO6837:1982. The main technical differences include: deleting the sieve plate visual inspection method in the original international standard, introducing photoelectric detection instruments to improve accuracy; adding a warning clause on the toxicity of tetrachloroethylene; and refining the solution preparation steps. These improvements have increased the repeatability of the test results from ±1.0 to ±0.5.
