Analysis of the core content of the standard

Wire rope is a key load-bearing component, and its failure analysis is directly related to the safe operation of the equipment. This standard systematically specifies the technical requirements for the entire process from on-site investigation to laboratory testing.

Typical failure case analysis

Case 1: Broken hoist rope in mine
Through the micro-area composition analysis specified in this standard, it was found that the sulfur element on the surface of the steel wire was abnormally enriched. Combined with the metallographic structure inspection, it was confirmed that the stress corrosion fracture was caused by hydrogen sulfide corrosion.

Case 2: Cable-stayed bridge strand wire jump
Using the GB/T31979 rotation degree test, it was found that the actual rotation angle of the wire rope exceeded the standard by 47%, which was traced back to improper control of the twisting parameters during the manufacturing process.


Implementation key recommendations

  1. When sampling, the complete section of the failure source area more than 50cm should be retained
  2. Corrosion analysis requires simultaneous detection of the rope core oil content (YB/T4182)
  3. Report preparation must include a 3-level review mechanism

2) Actual elastic modulus test of wire rope (GB/T24191)
