Introduction

Technical background of the standard

With the widespread application of seawater desalination technology in coastal areas of my country, the scaling problem of reverse osmosis membrane has become a key factor restricting the operating efficiency of the system. The formulation of GB/T 39221-2020 fills the gap in the dynamic performance evaluation method of scale inhibitors. Compared with traditional static tests (such as GB/T 23248), this standard simulates the actual working conditions more realistically through the periodic concentration circulation method.


Core test principle

The standard adopts the accelerated scaling mechanism: adjust the seawater pH to 9.0-10.0 by NaOH, and perform circulation-concentration alternating operation at 30±1℃. The key parameter control includes:

Key device configuration

Take the test device of Qingdao Baifa Seawater Desalination Plant as an example:

  • High-pressure system: plunger pump (pressure ≥8.0MPa) with S31603 stainless steel pipe
  • Monitoring system: conductivity meter (accuracy ±0.01mS/cm) + pH online sensor
  • Control unit: PLC system realizes triple protection of low pressure/high pressure/high temperature

Test data processing methodology

Calculate the concentration multiple by formula:

KCl = CCl,i/CCl,0 (chloride ion)
KCa = CCa,i/CCa,0 (calcium ion)

When the deviation between the two curves is greater than 15%, it is determined to be the scaling critical point, and the quality of the scale inhibition performance is reflected by the difference in the critical cycle number.


Implementation suggestions

  1. The SDI15 of pretreated seawater must be controlled at <5
  2. The membrane must be cleaned according to GB/T 23954 after each test cycle
  3. It is recommended to use the orthogonal test method to optimize the dosage concentration of the scale inhibitor
