Interpretation of the standard for determination of total phosphorus content in feed
1. Background and revision of the standard
GB/T 6437—2018 replaces the old version of GB/T 6437—2002. The main revisions include:
- Delete the restriction of "except phosphate" in the scope
- Add detection limit and quantification limit
- Revise the statement of the principle of phosphorus determination method
- Clarify the shelf life of phosphorus standard stock solution
- Modify the sampling and sample preparation methods
- Delete the restriction on monocalcium phosphate in the dry ashing method
- Adjust the range of the standard curve
2. Scope of application of the standard
This standard applies to the determination of phosphorus in feed raw materials and products. It is recommended to use>Spectrophotometer was used for quantitative analysis.

3. Standard determination principle and method
The total phosphorus in the sample reacts with ammonium vanadium molybdate under acidic conditions to form a yellow vanadium molybdenum yellow complex, whose absorbance is proportional to the phosphorus concentration. Use a UV-Visible spectrophotometer to determine at a wavelength of 400 nm.
Case Analysis: Wet Digestion Operation Procedure
- Weigh 0.5-5 g of sample
- Add nitric acid (30 mL) and heat to boil until yellow smoke disappears
- Add perchloric acid (10 mL) and continue heating until white smoke appears
- After cooling, dilute with water and transfer to a volumetric flask
- Make up to volume and shake well for testing
4. Implementation Suggestions and Precautions
To ensure the accuracy of the measurement:
- Strictly control the purity and dosage of reagents
- Use qualified instruments and equipment (such as high temperature furnace and spectrophotometer)
- Regularly calibrate the standard curve
- Avoid cross contamination
