Scope

This document describes methods for determining the actual gum content of military diesel and aviation fuels, as well as the gum content of automotive gasoline and other volatile fractions (including products containing alcohols, ethers, oxygenated compounds, and deposit inhibitors). Note 1: The determination of actual gum content in diesel fuel follows the guidelines for military diesel fuel, but for samples included in the precision test, the 95% recovery temperature is less than 345°C. Note 2: The methods and precision for determining the gum content of other volatile fractions follow the guidelines for automotive gasoline. Note 3: Aviation fuel in this document includes aviation gasoline and jet fuel. This document applies to the determination of actual gum content in military diesel and aviation fuels, and also to the determination of unwashed and solvent-washed gum content in automotive gasoline and other volatile fractions.
