Introduction

Standard Revision Background and Technical Evolution

GB/T 1965-2023 is the first revision of the 1996 version of the standard, and mainly makes technical adjustments based on the ISO 14610:2012 international standard. The standard applies to porous ceramic materials with an apparent porosity of 25%-90% and a pore size of 0.05-100μm, which expands the porosity range of materials compared to the old version.

Comparison of core technical requirements

Technical elements GB/T 1965-1996 GB/T 1965-2023 Change analysis
Fixture structure Unspecified elastic modulus requirement Elastic modulus of pressure head support roller>140GPa Improve test stability
Sample size ±0.1mm tolerance Width±0.2mm, thickness±0.2mm Relax processing accuracy requirements
Test speed Not clearly specified Constant speed of 0.5mm/min Uniform test conditions
Data processing Only calculate the average value Increase standard deviation and coefficient of dispersion Strengthen data reliability

Detailed explanation of key test steps

1. Sample preparation specification

The standard requires that the sample size be 8.0±0.2mm(width)×6.0±0.2mm(thickness)×≥70mm(length), and the parallelism deviation be <0.02mm. For complex components, it is necessary to prepare furnace samples to ensure material consistency.

2. Four-point bending fixture configuration

Adopt a 1/4 span structure (outer span 60mm/inner span 30mm), the indenter curvature radius is 2-3mm, and the surface roughness Ra≤0.40μm. It is recommended to use a fully adjustable fixture to prevent sample twisting.

3. Data collection requirements

The complete force-displacement curve must be recorded, and the fracture force measurement accuracy should meet the level 1 testing machine standard. It is recommended to use an electronic universal testing machine that complies with GB/T 16491.

Main points of calculation formula update

Four-point bending strength calculation formula: σB=3P(Ll)/2bh2
The symbol system has been completely updated:
• The bending strength symbol has been changed from τ to σ
• The thickness symbol has been changed from d to h
New calculation of discrete coefficient: Cv=S/σ

Recommendations for standard implementation

  1. Instrument selection: Four-point bending fixtures with automatic centering function are preferred to ensure span accuracy of ±0.1mm
  2. Sample processing: Ultrasonic cleaning rather than high temperature treatment is recommended for contaminated samples to avoid changing the porous structure
  3. Data recording: It is recommended to retain the original force-displacement curve data for at least 5 years
  4. Laboratory environment: strictly control temperature and humidity (23±2℃, RH≤70%)

Difference management with ISO standards

Although this document is modified to adopt ISO 14610:2012, there are 13 technical differences, mainly including:
• Delete the exclusion clause of honeycomb ceramics in the ISO standard
• Simplify the measuring tool requirements (division value 0.02mm instead of 0.01mm)
• Increase the upper limit of apparent porosity to 90%
For specific differences, please refer to the comparison table in Appendix B of the standard.
