Introduction

Test method for classification of chemically unstable gases

Classification basis Test conditions Judgment criteria Result processing
Normal temperature and pressure test 20℃, 101.3 kPa Pressure rise ratio f > 1.20 Classified as Class A chemically unstable gas
High temperature and high pressure test 65℃, corresponding initial pressure Pressure rise ratio f > 1.20 Classified as Class B chemically unstable gas
Mixture test Measured or calculated according to GB/T 27862 Concentration is below a specific limit and is non-flammable No classification test is required

Explanation of professional terms and practical application cases

Chemical instability: The property of a gas to undergo dangerous reactions without external combustion support, resulting in increased temperature or pressure.

For example, in high temperature and high pressure tests, acetylene (C2H2) is highly chemically unstable due to the triple bond in its molecular structure and is prone to violent reactions. According to the concentration limits in Table A.1 and Table A.2, mixtures containing acetylene need to be classified at specific concentrations.
