Scope

This standard specifies the method for measuring the count concentration of asbestos and other inorganic fibrous particles in ambient air by scanning electron microscope. This method also utilizes energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) to analyze the elemental composition of fibrous particles, and uses this data to distinguish asbestos fibers, calcium sulfate fibers, and other inorganic fibers. This standard applies to the determination of the count concentration of asbestos and other inorganic fibrous particles in the ambient air, and also applies to the detection of the count concentration of asbestos and other inorganic fibrous particles in the air in buildings. For example, after the removal and replacement of asbestos-containing building materials, the concentration of residual asbestos fibrous particles in the air is determined. If no fiber is found during the test (the number of fibers is 0), the upper limit of the 95% confidence interval is 2.99. If 1.0 m3 air passes through the sample membrane per square centimeter, and the area of 1.0 mm2 on the membrane is analyzed by scanning electron microscope, that is, the volume of air passing through the analyzed area membrane is 0.010 m3 , the detection limit is about 300/m3 fibers. The detection range of the concentration of fibrous particles on the membrane sample is about 3 particles/cm2~200 particles/cm2. Concentration values in air (fibers/m3) depend on the sample volume and can be calculated.
