Introduction
High Performance Liquid Chromatography Determination of Prohibited Substances in Cosmetics
Background and Significance of Standard Formulation
The "Technical Specifications for Safety of Cosmetics" stipulates that it is prohibited to add certain substances that are harmful to health to cosmetics as cosmetic raw materials or components. As a prohibited preservative, the presence of Prohibited Substances must be strictly controlled during the production process of cosmetics. However, in actual detection, due to its extremely low limit value requirements, traditional detection methods are difficult to meet the sensitivity and accuracy requirements. The formulation of this standard fills this technical gap and provides a scientific basis for the quantitative detection of Prohibited Substances in Cosmetics.
Technical Advantages of High Performance Liquid Chromatography
High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is an analytical technique with high separation efficiency and strong sensitivity, which is particularly suitable for the detection of trace components. This standard adopts the external standard method quantitatively combined with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to ensure the accuracy and reliability of Prohibited Substances detection.
- Detection limit: $2~\mathrm{mg/kg}$
- Quantification limit: $5~\mathrm{mg/kg}$
- Recovery rate: $88.2\% \sim 114.7\%
Comparative analysis of standard framework
| Standard dimensions | Scope of application | Detection method | Sensitivity requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| GB/T 35801—2018 | Cream, lotion and loose powder cosmetics | HPLC combined with mass spectrometry confirmation | Detection limit $2~\mathrm{mg/kg}$ |
| Other related standards | Applicable only to some types of cosmetics | Traditional chromatography | Insufficient sensitivity |
Implementation suggestions
To ensure the effective implementation of the standard, it is recommended that:
- Laboratory requirements:Equipped with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometer to ensure that the equipment meets the technical parameters specified in the standard.
- Staff training:Regularly conduct method validation and operation specification training for testing personnel to improve their technical level.
- Sample pretreatment:Perform ultrasonic extraction and centrifugal filtration in strict accordance with standard requirements to avoid interference from impurities.
