Introduction
Interpretation of the standard for the test method of rhodium-carbon catalyst activity
This standard (GB/T 37360-2019) specifies the test method for the activity of rhodium-carbon catalysts, which is applicable to the activity test of rhodium-carbon catalysts in the hydrogenation reduction reactions of aromatic rings, heterocyclic rings, nitro groups, nitriles, aliphatic carboxylic acids and other fine chemicals.
Background and significance of standard formulation
With the rapid development of the petrochemical industry, the role of catalysts in hydrogenation reduction reactions is becoming increasingly important. As a highly efficient catalyst, rhodium-carbon catalysts are widely needed in industrial applications. However, the standardization of their activity evaluation methods is crucial to ensure product quality and process consistency. This standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and is managed by the National Technical Committee for Chemical Standardization. It aims to provide a unified and scientific method for the activity test of rhodium-carbon catalysts.
Test Equipment and Performance Requirements
| Serial Number | Item | Performance Parameters |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Reactor Specification (316L Stainless Steel)/mL | 500 |
| 2 | Maximum Operating Pressure/MPa | 10 |
| 3 | Maximum Operating Temperature/C | 300 |
| 4 | Maximum Operating Speed/(r/min) | 1500 |
| 5 | Parallelism (extreme difference)/% | ≤3 |
Experimental steps and data analysis
During the experiment, the following steps need to be followed:
- o-chloronitrobenzene reacts with hydrogen under the action of rhodium carbon catalyst to produce o-chloroaniline and water.
- The mass fraction of o-chloronitrobenzene before and after the reaction is determined by gas chromatograph, and its conversion rate is calculated to characterize the catalyst activity.
- The activity is calculated according to the formula: $$ E = \frac{w_1 - w_2}{w_1} \times 100\% $$, where $E$ is the conversion rate, $w_1$ and $w_2$ are the mass fractions of o-chloronitrobenzene in the raw material and product, respectively.
The experimental results show that this method has good parallelism and reproducibility (≤3%), ensuring the reliability of the data.
Recommendations for the implementation of the standard
In practical applications, it is recommended that:
- Strictly follow the sampling and preparation methods specified in the standard to ensure the representativeness of the sample.
- Regularly check the sealing and performance parameters of the test equipment to ensure the accuracy of the experimental results.
- For enterprises using this standard for the first time, it is recommended to conduct a small test to confirm the applicability of the experimental conditions.
