1. Standardization background and technological evolution

GB/T42268-2022 is a Chinese national standard revised and formulated based on the international standard ISO4097:2020, which mainly focuses on the evaluation method of ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM). This standard combines the actual application needs of my country and makes localized adjustments to many technical details.

3. Detailed interpretation of the standard

3.1 Sampling and sample preparation

According to the provisions of GB/T15340, take about 1.5kg of laboratory samples and perform corresponding sample preparation. Ensure sample uniformity and representativeness.

3.2 Physical and chemical tests of raw rubber

  • Mooney viscosity determination: Use the GB/T1232.1 method, and it is recommended to use a Mooney viscometer.
  • Volatile content test: GB/T24131.1 hot roller method or GB/T24131.2 infrared drying unit automatic analyzer can be used.
  • Ash content determination: GB/T4498.1-2013 muffle furnace method or thermogravimetric analysis is recommended.

4. Implementation suggestions and precautions

4.1 Standard test formula selection

Select the appropriate formula according to the EPDM type (oil-filled or non-oil-filled). The formula table clearly states the specific requirements for different application scenarios.

4.2 Mixing program optimization

  • Laboratory internal mixer preferred: It is recommended to use a single-stage or two-stage mixing program (method A1/A2) to ensure uniform dispersion of the compounding ingredients.
  • Open mill alternative: Only used when there is no internal mixer, and special attention should be paid to the control of mixing temperature and time.

4.3 Vulcanization property test

Select a disc oscillating vulcanizer or a rotorless vulcanizer according to the rubber type, and conduct the test strictly in accordance with the specified conditions (160℃±0.3℃).
