1.1 Subject content
This standard specifies the acid titration method used for determining the total alkalinity, bicarbonate and carbonate in water.
1.2 Application scope
This method is applicable to the generally non-turbid and low-chromatic surface water. The calculation for bicarbonate and carbonate is only applicable to that for water sample containing only hydroxide, bicarbonate and carbonate.
1.3 Interference and elimination
Determination will be interfered if water sample is turbid and colored, then the determination shall be carried out with potentiometric titration method. Oxide that can fade the indicator will also interfere the determination. If the residual chlorine in water sample damages the indicator, 1~2 drops of sodium thiosulfate shall be added to eliminate the residual chlorine.
