Scope

This standard specifies measurement procedures for the determination of many major image quality parameters of medical magnetic resonance equipment. The measurement procedures stated in this standard are suitable for: quality evaluation during acceptance tests; quality assurance during stability tests. In addition, the measurement procedures specified in this standard may also be helpful for type testing, although this is not the purpose of this standard. This standard does not apply to: Determination of performance levels during acceptance tests and stability tests; Image quality evaluation of high-field magnetic resonance equipment greater than 4T, unless otherwise stated; Image quality affected by magnetic resonance compatibility issues; Special Diagnostic procedures such as flow imaging, perfusion, diffusion, radiotherapy and application of image-guided therapy; type testing. The scope of this standard is also limited to measuring image quality characteristics on test molds and not on patient images. The measurement procedures specified in this standard are intended for: a) manufacturers who declare that they can perform acceptance tests and stability tests according to the methods described in this standard; b) laboratories that confirm the performance of magnetic resonance equipment according to the methods described in this standard; c) the regulatory authority, capable of complying with this standard, and d) the responsible body, willing to perform acceptance tests and stability tests of the methods described in this standard. The main image quality parameters and measurement methods defined in this standard are: signal-to-noise ratio, uniformity, slice thickness and slice profile, geometric distortion, spatial resolution and ghosting.
