Introduction
GB/T 36055—2018 Standard Overview
The National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T 36055—2018 "Analysis Method for Determination of Moisture Content of Forestry Biomass Raw Materials" specifies the terms and definitions, principles, instruments, test procedures, result calculation and test report for the determination of moisture content of forestry biomass raw materials. This standard is applicable to the determination of moisture content of forestry biomass raw materials with stable physical and chemical properties under $105~^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$.
Background of Standard Formulation
With the widespread application of forestry biomass resources, moisture content, as one of the important indicators to measure its quality, is of great significance in wood processing, storage and trade. The formulation of GB/T 36055—2018 aims to standardize the method for determining moisture content of forestry biomass raw materials and ensure the consistency and accuracy of data.
Terms and Definitions
| Terms | Definition |
|---|---|
| Constant weight | The state when the sample is dried at a specified temperature until the difference in the mass of the sample in two consecutive weighings does not exceed $0.1\%$ of the original sample mass. |
| Moisture content on wet basis | The ratio of the mass reduction after the sample is dried to constant weight according to the specified method to the mass of the sample before drying, expressed as a percentage. |
| Moisture content on dry basis | The ratio of the mass lost after the sample is dried to constant weight according to the prescribed method to the mass of the sample after drying, expressed as a percentage. |
Instruments and equipment
The following are the instruments and equipment mentioned in the standard:
- Balance: Sensitivity $0.000\mathrm{~1~g}$.
- Container: Made of corrosion-resistant and adsorption-resistant material, with a smooth surface and an upper cover.
- Oven: can keep the temperature at $105~^{\circ}\mathrm{C} \pm 2~^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$.
- Dryer: used to cool the dried sample.
Determination method
The following determination steps are specified in the standard:
- Weigh $2\mathrm{g} \sim 10\mathrm{~g}$ sample and place it in a pre-dried, weighed and marked container.
- Put the container with the sample in an oven, control the temperature at $105~^{\circ}\mathrm{C} \pm 2~^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$, and open the container cover for drying. The first drying time is not less than $4\mathrm{~h}$.
- When the sample is completely dried, quickly cover the container lid and take it out, put it in a desiccator to cool to room temperature, and then weigh it.
- Repeat the above operation until the difference between two consecutive weighings is no more than $0.1\%$ of the mass of the sample before drying.
Result calculation
Wet basis moisture content
$$ X_{1} = \frac{m_{1} - m_{2}}{m_{1}} \times 100\% $$- $m_{1}$: mass of the sample before drying.
- $m_{2}$: mass of the sample after drying.
Dry basis moisture content
$$ X_{2} = \frac{m_{1} - m_{2}}{m_{2}} \times 100\% $$- $m_{1}$: sample mass before drying.
- $m_{2}$: sample mass after drying.
Implementation suggestions
To ensure the accuracy and reliability of the measurement results, it is recommended that:
- The instrument should be calibrated regularly to ensure that its accuracy meets the requirements.
- Strictly control the drying temperature and time to avoid overheating or incomplete drying of the sample.
- Record all abnormal phenomena and explain them in detail in the report.
- Operators must undergo professional training and be familiar with standard procedures and technical specifications.
