Introduction

1. Background and significance of the standard

GB/T 44508-2024 Technical Specification for Ring Forgings of Wind Turbine Generator Sets in Wind Energy Generation Systems is the latest standard issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the State Administration of Standardization. This standard specifies detailed technical requirements, test methods and inspection rules for ring forgings of key components such as tower flanges and slewing rings in wind turbine generator sets, aiming to improve product quality and reliability and ensure the safe operation of wind power generation systems.

2. Scope and application of the standard

This standard applies to:

  • Annular forgings for wind turbine tower flanges
  • Annular forgings for slewing rings (including yaw and pitch)
  • Other related annular forgings involving wind power generation systems

Note: Annular forgings refer to those with the smaller nominal width and height after final finishing. See Figure 1 for the specific definition.

3. Comparison of standard frameworks

Standard dimensions GB/T 44508—2024 International standard comparison (EN) Difference analysis
Material requirements Use fine-grained killed steel, vacuum degree ≤133Pa EN 10025-3/S355NL Domestic standards are more stringent, emphasizing vacuum treatment
Forging ratio requirements Mold casting ingot ≥3.0, continuous casting round billet ≥5.0 - Increase radial forging ratio (≥2.5) requirements
Heat treatment requirements Refer to AMS 2750, furnace temperature uniformity ±10°C AMS 2750 Domestic standards refine the inspection frequency and accuracy requirements

Case Study: Practical Application of Forging Ratio

Taking Q420NE steel as an example, when forging with die-cast ingots, the total forging ratio must be ≥5.0. By optimizing the upsetting and drawing processes, a company successfully increased the forging ratio to 5.2, significantly improving the mechanical properties of forgings.
