1. Standard Overview

GB/T 42490—2023 is the national standard of the People's Republic of China, mainly for the determination of organic carbon content and carbon isotope ratio, total nitrogen content and nitrogen isotope ratio in soil and biological samples. This standard adopts stable isotope ratio mass spectrometry (EA-IRMS), which is suitable for the analysis of unlabeled and tracer test samples.


2. Background of Standard Formulation

With the increasing demand for global climate change and environmental protection, soil quality testing has become an important part of scientific research and environmental monitoring. This standard was proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee for Soil Quality Standardization. It aims to provide unified technical specifications for isotope analysis of soil and biological samples.


3. Comparison of standard frameworks
